About this place
Set on the 1st floor of the Toyomi Building, amid the warehouses and office blocks of Toyomicho, Uogashi is a lunchtime fixture for nearby workers and seafood seekers. Inside the lively, unpretentious dining room, what brings in regular crowds is the thickness of the sashimi, cut with substantial heft in every slice.
Sashimi set meals are offered in 3-variety and 4-variety platters, extending to elaborate boat-platter presentations. The lineup shifts with the morning catch, rotating through cuts like tuna, yellowtail, and red sea bream. Thick slices of medium-fatty tuna (chutoro), deeply flavored lean akami, and crisp octopus let diners appreciate contrasting textures and tastes over bowls of warm rice. Diners can choose between plain steamed rice and vinegared sushi rice, and the kitchen generously accommodates refills of rice and miso soup—a welcome touch for hearty appetites.
Rice bowls are just as enticing, featuring wild yellowtail, young amberjack, or chutoro lightly coated in seasoned soy sauce marinade. Deciding among the options is part of the pleasure, whether opting for a 3-variety bowl that pairs chutoro with salmon and salmon roe, or a deluxe seafood bowl crowned with a colorful assortment of cuts. Those who prefer to separate their toppings from the rice can order the atama style, which presents the seafood bowl toppings on an independent platter alongside rice and miso soup.
Beyond raw fish, daily non-sashimi options like jumbo fried prawn sets, cutlet curry, and grilled Okhotsk atka mackerel show the breadth expected of an everyday neighborhood canteen. Service runs during lunch hours from 11:00 to 14:00; because popular catches can sell out early, arriving near opening time is the safest bet.
